Prediction Market World Goes Live, but Brought Down by Traffic on Launch Day?
The independent platform of prediction market World experienced traffic overload on its launch day, with the highest reward for the first transaction reaching $500.

On September 9, the independent site world.xyz of Solana-based prediction market platform World officially launched, opening to over 1 million waitlist users. The offerings include all NFL regular season games, 7 major football leagues, F1, the 2026 midterm elections, and the Federal Reserve's next interest rate decision, among others.

Prior to this, since July, World has been operating as an embedded feature within the Phantom wallet, having launched over 150,000 markets in total. However, on the launch day of the independent site, traffic far exceeded expectations, causing the site to go offline temporarily due to overload.

According to an official post from World in the early hours of September 10, the traffic that day was enough to "literally overload the site". The team temporarily shut down the site for repairs as a precaution, emphasizing that all funds are safe and that reward activities will resume after repairs. As of the time of this article, the site has not yet resumed operation.

The direct driver of this traffic surge was the official first-transaction reward campaign launched simultaneously.

According to community feedback, the campaign process involves creating an account, linking an X account, completing a prediction transaction, and then receiving a reward settled in Phantom's USD stablecoin CASH. The official has not released a fixed reward amount table; rewards vary by person, time period, and eligibility. Some users reported receiving $378, and the community claims the maximum reward can reach around $500.

Crypto blogger Chen Xiaomeng posted that rewards are related to the number of followers on X accounts, with 10,000 followers corresponding to about $80. This claim has not been confirmed by the official, but the community generally sees it as a potential logic behind the campaign design. Technical issues also arose during the campaign: some users reported that USDC deposits did not arrive, deposit addresses changed after refreshing, or rewards were not received after completing transactions. Participation is restricted in some countries, and not all global users can claim rewards.

In fact, World entered the public eye earlier. Foresight News published a report on June 30 this year titled "World, Which Hasn't Officially Introduced Itself, Appears in Phantom's Prediction Market Disclosure". At that time, World had not yet launched specific functions, but it had already appeared in Phantom's prediction market disclosure information.

World's settlement system is fully built around the stablecoin CASH. CASH is a USD stablecoin designed by Phantom for daily use, pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, and issued by Bridge and Stripe's Open Issuance platform. World's prediction contracts are presented in a binary "yes/no" format, with both opening positions and settlements completed using CASH. Users can exchange USDC or SOL for CASH on the front end to participate in transactions; profits, rewards, and position-closing proceeds are all in CASH. This design means that every transaction on World creates use cases for Phantom's stablecoin, rather than relying on external settlement assets like USDC.

Phantom's support for World is not limited to wallet connectivity. According to Phantom's disclosure page, since June 1, 2026, new prediction positions opened within Phantom have been provided by World Prediction Markets; previously, this entry used Kalshi and DFlow. By first embedding into Phantom, World directly took over the existing traffic of Solana's largest consumer wallet, which is the key to its ability to accumulate over 50,000 independent predictors in a short period.

After the launch of the independent site, two paths operate in parallel: Phantom provides the front end, wallet, Cash account, and user distribution; World provides the market protocol, order routing, and settlement logic; Chainlink provides high-speed market data and automated settlement through Data Streams and CRE, replacing traditional manual review or token holder voting mechanisms.

From the data perspective, World still has a significant gap with mainstream platforms. According to Dune data, World's current total prediction trading volume is about $31 million, with approximately 53,600 independent predictors; in contrast, Polymarket's total weekly trading volume on August 17 was about $2.34 billion, and its number of active addresses in July was about 573,000.

World's choice to use first-transaction rewards instead of points or airdrops to acquire new users is a pragmatic choice in this competitive landscape. The design of linking X accounts helps identify real users and filter out bots, while leveraging social spread to expand coverage. If the community's guess that reward amounts are linked to follower counts is true, it means World prefers to attract users with certain influence rather than simply pursuing the number of addresses. According to official information, World currently has no points program and has not announced a token issuance plan.

From the perspective of the Solana ecosystem, World's user acquisition campaign serves two goals simultaneously: absorbing new users for the Phantom wallet and expanding the circulation scale of the CASH stablecoin. According to CoinMarketCap data, CASH's current market capitalization is about $125 million, which is a huge gap compared to USDT's $188.38 billion and USDC's $74.31 billion. Every transaction and every reward distribution on World increases the actual demand for CASH, and Phantom, as Solana's largest consumer wallet, provides a potential distribution network for CASH through its user base.

Whether World can retain users after the transaction reward campaign ends and convert first-time transaction users into long-term users remains to be seen.
